Aurora Aksnes' first musical moment was when she stumbled across a miniature piano hidden in the basement and becoming enthralled by the sounds it created. Jan Oystein Aksnes and May-Britt Aksnes encouraged her to learn music, not for an income or as a pastime and as a way to improve. The singer began to write her own songs. She credits renowned composers Leonard Cohen and Bob Dylan in her influences, along with a love for Bjork's style. Her mother had told her the songs she composed could be used to not be famous for her, rather to help people to see the importance of their work and influence on the world, she began performing them publicly. At age 6 she started playing the piano and at nine was writing music. Her family didn't be aware until fourteen. Aurora's success was never her dream. According to her, she simply enjoys writing songs. She believes music can make anyone feel better.
